Permanent residence permit as a pensioner or retiree (ppt-jp)

Foreigners who receive retirement or pension from a foreign government, international organization or private company, who enter the national territory to settle in it and have sufficient economic means to cover all their living expenses and those of their dependents in the country. The monthly income or pension may not be less than one thousand balboas (B/.1,000.00) and must be granted for life.

The certification that proves the condition of retiree or pensioner may be seven hundred and fifty balboas (B/. 750.00) in the cases that:

  • The applicant has acquired a personal property in the national territory for a sum greater than one hundred thousand balboas (B/.100,000.00).

Note:

  1. In the case of spouses, they may choose to credit the sums of both spouses in order to comply with the minimum pension established, which is one thousand balboas (B/.1,000.00).
  2. In the cases of dependent children, their leave shall be temporary until they reach the age of twenty-five (25) provided that they prove that they have completed their studies, however, they shall not be entitled to permanence or pensioner status. With the exception of those dependent children who suffer from a proven profound disability.
  1. Power of Attorney and Application (notarized).
  2. Three (3) photographs.
  3. Copy of the passport (Notary).
  4. Certificate of Criminal Record or affidavit before a Notary Public.
  5. Health Certificate.
  6. Personal Background Affidavit Form.
  7. Certification of his condition of retired or pensioned by foreign governments, international organizations or private companies, in which it is credited that he receives a life pension of not less than one thousand balboas (B/. 1,000.00) monthly or its equivalent in foreign currency.
  8. If the retirement or pension comes from a private company, it must be provided in addition to the above:
  9. Letter from a foreign pension management, trust, mutual fund, insurance or banking company certifying that it manages funds for the company or applicant.
  10. Certificate of existence and validity of the company, which grants the pension and manages the fund.

The Multiple Return Visa is optional only if you are going to travel within the next six (6) months, equivalent to the duration of your processing card. This is a stamp that is stamped in your passport once you have your 6-month provisional card while the process is reviewed by immigration.

After the passport photograph, the passport must go to Immigration for 72 hours to be stamped. If you travel with your 6 month provisional ID card and do not have this stamp in your passport you may incur a fine of USD 2,000.00 when you re-enter the country.

Process Times

You must come to the Republic of Panama at least three times:

  • The first visit, 10 working days or the equivalent of two weeks. At this visit we register your passport and open your personal bank account. We will then proceed to submit the application, take your passport photo and obtain your multiple entry/exit permit (if you plan to travel outside the country while the application is being approved).

  • Second visit, Notification of Approved Residence Permit and taking of permanent resident card photograph.

  • Third visit, Photograph of your E. card.
