Panama – Italy Treaty

This permit is granted to foreigners of Italian nationality who wish to establish their residence indefinitely in the Republic of Panama.

It is established in the Treaties of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between the Republic of Panama and the Republic of Italy.

  1. Power of Attorney and Application.
  2. Three (3) photographs.
  3. Copy of the passport duly collated.
  4. Certificate of Criminal Record.
  5. Health Certificate.
  6. Certified Check for B/250.00 in favor of the National Treasury.
  7. Personal Background Affidavit Form.
  8. Document that proves the purpose for establishing your residence (economic or professional activity to be carried out).
  9. Copy of the Italian identity card or residence card.
  10. In case of dependents:
    1. Letter of responsibility.
    2. Proof of relationship.
    3. Proof of address.
    4. Over 18 years of age to present a certificate of bachelorhood and certified studies.
  11. Proof that the resident has sufficient financial solvency, which may be evidenced by a bank certification or bank statement from the last month showing a balance of at least four figures.

PROOF OF FINANCIAL SOLVENCY

To satisfy this item, the applicant must demonstrate that he/she has at least $5,000 US Dollars in a Panama bank account and an additional $2,000 US Dollars for each dependent, if any. If financial solvency is not evident, approval will be subject to the judgment and discretion of the immigration officer.

The Multiple Return Visa is optional only if you are going to travel within the next six (6) months, equivalent to the duration of your processing card. This is a stamp that is stamped in your passport once you have your 6 month provisional card while the process is reviewed by immigration. After the photograph of the carnet the passport must go to Immigration for 72 hours for the stamping. If you travel with your 6 month provisional passport card and you do not have this stamp in your passport you may incur a fine of USD 2,000.00 when you re-enter the country.

Process Times

You must come to the Republic of Panama at least three times:

  • The first visit, 10 working days or the equivalent of two weeks. At this visit we register your passport and open your personal bank account. We will then proceed to submit the application, take your passport photo and obtain your multiple entry/exit permit (if you plan to travel out of the country while the application is being approved).

  • Second visit, Notification of Approved Residence Permit and taking of permanent resident card photograph.

  • Third visit, Photograph of your E. card.
